Horse & Country TV is a digital TV channel broadcasting on SKY channel 280 in the UK and Ireland, featuring programming about equestrianism and country lifestyle. I worked as a Developer on their Drupal 6 website between July 2010 and April 2011.
Whilst there, I worked on several key projects including:
- Integration and customisation of the Brightcove video platform.
- Converting the previous standard Drupal 6 installation to Pressflow.
- Creation of the Now/Next block: Writing of a bespoke custom module that displays what programme is currently being shown on H&C TV, and what programme immediately follows it.
- Re-development of the Events section: With a focus on a better user experience and a simplified workflow. New events added to the website use the Location module to add its venue information, and are searchable by a user by distance from an entered postcode.
- Integration of the Ubercart e-commerce system: This has been used to sell both physical and virtual products through the H&C website, as well as providing the payment mechanism for the site's 'Paid Events' system.
- Personalised content: Providing users with relative personalised content from from both internal content types (such as News, Blogs and Videos) and external sources (such as Facebook, Flickr and external RSS feeds), based on their preferences.
- Re-development of the Promo sections: My first project was to re-develop the several promo boxes on the site - which I did using a customised version of the Views Showcase module. I also simplified the workflow which now allows the Editors to easily reference nodes from multiple content types, as well as being able to prioritise them and make them 'sticky' - ensuring that the most relevant information is always shown.
